Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. The air has turned crisp and my thoughts turn to reminiscing about the past year. The Huntingdon Valley Library has much to be thankful for this year. We continue to enjoy a vibrant relationship with our community. This year many people helped to support the library with monetary donations and/or volunteer hours.
As you begin thinking about holiday shopping, I would like to ask you to support two important initiatives. The first is Small Business Saturday on November 29. The second is Giving Tuesday on December 2.
Small Business Saturday encourages everyone to shop at local independent businesses. Did you know that on average, 48 percent of each purchase at local businesses was recirculated locally, compared to less than 14 percent of purchases at chain stores? (Forbes 11/08/2014) Our independent businesses help build the community and provide local employment. A list of businesses located in Lower Moreland is available here:
Giving Tuesday is celebrating its third year. Black Friday inspired Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday inspired Giving Tuesday. It is a celebratory day to kick off the giving season. As many of you make your holiday and end-of-year charitable gifts, please keep your library in mind. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization and your donation will directly impact your community.
Thank you for a wonderful year at the Huntingdon Valley Library.
