APPRISE Medicare Counseling Information Sessions

APPRISE is a free health insurance counseling program designed to help Pennsylvania residents over the age of 60 and those with disabilities with health insurance concerns. The Pa Dept. of Aging created APPRISE to help seniors understand their Medicare insurance options and make informed choices that would best meet their needs.

 Medicare 101

Medicare 101 will help individuals understand the basics of Medicare, what it covers, and how the various types of health and drug insurance work.

 Medicare for 2013

 The information session will provide address the Medicare Prescription Drug Program, how it works, what it covers, what are the costs, how part D works with other insurance policies and when can one join the program.

 Medicare 2013 will focus on the options available to Medicare beneficiaries who have choices to make during the annual Open Enrollment period (October 15 to December 7). It will address two types of situations:

 (1) Medicare 2013 will explain the options that will be available next year for persons who have (or are considering) a Medicare Advantage plan, and those who are currently enrolled in, and those considering enrollment in a Medicare managed care plan (typically, HMOs). Usually, these plans include Part D prescription drug coverage as part of the package.

 (2) Medicare 2013 we will identify the Prescription Drug Plan options that will be available to persons who have “Original Medicare” and some sort of Medicare Supplement (or “Medigap”) policy that covers their Medicare Parts A and B.
